In September, the partners of the METAWOOD project – Metamaterials and Applied Training for Multi-Storey Timber Buildings – met in Innsbruck (Austria).
The meeting, organised by the University of Innsbruck, took place at the Institute of Civil Engineering and Materials Science – Timber Technology Unit of the University on 12 and 13 September 2024.
After a welcome address by Anton Kraler (University of Innsbruck), the first day was opened by the Lead Partner, Centro Consorzi (Edoardo Ebone, Alice Ielmini, and Sara Rosset – Communication Manager), who introduced the administrative aspects and provided an update on the project’s communication activities.
Subsequently, Studio Gallian (technical consultant to the LP – Centro Consorzi) presented the progress of the project activities related to WP3, aimed at identifying the different stages of the life cycle of timber buildings through analysis, data sharing from the supply chain, and coding construction processes using advanced Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) software.
Sophia Reuß, Ina Schmäche (University of Innsbruck), and Marco Caniato (University of Bolzano) then presented the first developments and results of the research and development activities on metamaterials (WP2), sparking a discussion among all the partners.
The first day concluded with an interesting visit to the laboratories of the Institute of Civil Engineering and Materials Science and a group dinner in the centre of Innsbruck.
On the second day, Martina Gherlenda and Enrico Tezza (Apri Formazione) presented the progress of WP4 activities, aimed at improving training to address the shortage of specialised professionals in the timber construction sector in Italy and Austria. Particular attention was given to orientation activities and the analysis of training needs.
Throughout the two days, the partners discussed and planned the next activities to be developed in the various WPs, agreeing that the next partner meeting would be hosted at Apri Formazione’s headquarters in Vicenza.
